ABS Institute hosted another successful course this weekend to surgeons from Africa, Korea, North Carolina and Alabama.
The surgeons who attended the three day course, which included lectures and 2 surgeries, traveled to the bod:evolve cosmetic surgery center to learn the advanced technique of VASER Hi Def lipo.
Saturday’s surgery was led by Dr. Millard who performed VASER Hi lipo of the abdomen and flanks to his male patient.
Sunday’s surgery was led by Dr. Broadway, who performed VASER Hi Def lipo of the abdomen and flanks, with a fat transfer to the buttocks on a female patient. Both surgeries went very well, and the patients are doing great!
If you are a surgeon and are interested in learning more about Hi Def liposculpture, please visit our website to view upcoming scheduled courses. Please contact our office to schedule a consultation if you would like to be considered as a course patient.

Dr. Broadway is now offering his patients the TouchView Ultrasound transducer created by Sound Surgical Technologies. Recently approved by the FDA, the transducer offers high quality imaging as well as an accurate measure of fat tissue depth.
The transducer will help Denver lipo patients pre and postoperatively. An example of pre surgery is mapping and measuring fat depth on areas of the body where fatty tissue is going to be aspirated during surgery. This allows us to give patients an idea of how much fatty tissue they are carrying in a specific area, and what changes they can expect after surgery. The TouchView also allows Dr. Broadway to detect a hernia or other scar tissue that might influence your surgical result.
During surgery, the TouchView allows the surgeon to be even more precise with what fat to remove and what fat to leave, especially when working in the most superficial layer of fat, which is essential for VASER Hi Def Liposculpting.
Post-operatively the TouchView is extremely important with the detection of seromas. This is a build up of fluid that feels like jello, and if not treated, can create contour irregularities under the skin, once again affecting your overall result. Dr. Broadway is quoted in the April addition of The Aesthetic Guide stating “I routinely examine patients post-operatively to see if they have a clinical or sub-clinical seroma. If I find one, I can use the ultrasound-guided needle aspiration.”
The best lipo resultsare achieved in the hands of the most experienced surgeon. One who offers the most advanced equipment, and one who understands the human anatomy as an art form. From start to finish, you will learn that the body sculpting procedures offered by the surgeons at bod:evolve, are not like the lipo procedures you will find anywhere else. Our post operative care includes special foam garments developed by our surgeons, post operative massage therapy treatments, and detailed instructions by our highly trained staff during your healing process, to ensure you achieve the best result.

Dr. Broadway @ bodevolve is the first surgeon in Denver to offer his patients the option of fat cell preservation. This “sci fi” technique, that has taken off in Europe, allows a young patient to remove fat cells today during their VASER lipo procedure, store the fat through cryopreservation, and transfer the young fat cells back into the desired area of the body later in life.
There are a number of good reasons to store your fat for future use, not only for cosmetic treatments, but also post cancer reconstruction, and wound care. The fat you remove today will be younger, stronger and more viable than fat removed in later years. This option is far more appealing because it’s your own tissue and not foreign material, allowing for less rejection.
During your Denver lipo procedure, Dr. Broadway will remove the fat and adipose tissue from the desired area with ultrasound technology. Once aspirated, it will be immediately shipped to a facility in Texas, where it is processed and preserved until you are ready to inject it back into the body.
Banked fat can be used at any time to freshen up a previous cosmetic procedure, such as fat transfer to the face, without having to go through the lipo surgery and recovery again. Potential future uses of banked fat that are being researched and studied today include: spinal cord injuries, muscle disorders, heart attacks, kidney damage, and sport related injuries. The fat taken today could potentially help save your life in the future.
If you are interested in learning more about fat cell preservation, call today to schedule your consultation with triple board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. David Broadway.

Fat grafting, or fat transfer has an extensive history, and has been performed in both plastic and reconstructive surgery practices for over 100 years. Utilizing fat over other materials such as dermal fillers, and buttock or breast implants, offers many advantages to patients:
- it uses your own tissue
- it’s biocompatible with the body
- it’s easily accessible through liposuction
- it produces natural results
Dr. Broadway has offered his patients standard fat transfer procedures for many years now, and has seen very successful results. But with science and research continuing to advance at a high speed pace, studies are now showing that fat transfer surgeries that include cell-enriched fat, can offer patients longer lasting, more durable results.
Dr. Broadway is proud to offer his Denver plastic surgery patients this advanced piece of equipment that cleans, and preps the fat to be re injected into the face, breasts, buttocks or scars caused from traumatic injury. Cell-enriched fat grafting allows Dr. Broadway to eliminate any unwanted debris including water, and tumescent fluid. When these” clean” fat cells are re injected, it is believed that they can provide more oxygen and nutrients, and integrate more successfully with the surrounding tissue. Patients will retain more of the fat, offering a better result.

You’ve scheduled a number of consultations with Denver board certified plastic surgeons to better understand your upcoming Facelift surgery, and the only thing you have really learned is that you are more confused now then you were before you began your research. The options for facial rejuvenation can seem endless, and the prices can range from $5000-$15,000. What do you really need to understand to ensure you get one of the best facelifts in Denver?
Dr. Broadway’s facelifts will typically take around 4-5 hours for a female patient, and longer for a male. During the procedure Dr. Broadway uses the SMAS technique to help give a more dramatic, longer lasting result. SMAS stands for Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System. This allows the surgeon to tighten more than just the superficial skin, providing a “deeper” lift than what you would see with the LifeStyle Lift procedure.

Actual patient of Dr. Broadway-Facelift with fat transfer
Patients always question how long their facelift result will last, and this varies based on their age, genetics, environmental damage, smoking, and overall health. As we age our tissue softens and becomes more lax, and it’s more difficult to anchor sutures to softer tissue, so age plays a big role in the facelift longevity. Environmental stress and/or smoking will also play a significant role in weakening the tissue, and the overall result.
Dr. Broadway will typically always add fat transfer to the face in conjunction with the facelift procedure to provide a fuller, more youthful appearance. Fat transfer to the face can help to soften fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, plump up the cheeks, and fill in the temporal brow indentation. This helps to eliminate the need for repeat dermal filler injections, and the patients own tissue is being used helping to eliminate infection or possible rejection.
Dr. Broadway has built his 20+ year reputation by offering his patients natural facelift results. He is one of few that likes to include the fat transfer option to enhance the result, offering patients some of the best facelift results in Denver.

Dr. Broadway just returned from an international VASER conference conducted in London. He and Dr. Millard were invited to lecture surgeons on the advanced techniques of VASER Hi Def Lipo and stem cell fat transfer.
SoundSurgical technologies hosted the course and invited Dr. Broadway to speak to other surgeons in reference to the VASER 2.0 system. This unique lipo system is the best technology on the market to help plastic surgeons obtain great Hi Def results. Additionally, the ultrasonic energy has been specifiaclly designed to preserve and maintain fat cell viability for fat transfer procedures to the face, breasts and buttocks.
Fat transfer procedures are quickly becoming the next craze in plast
ic surgery. Stem cell fat transfer is a popular add on procedure for many of Dr. Broadway’s Denver plastic surgery patients who have scheduled lipo and facelift surgeries.
Dr. Broadway explains “I’m usually doing fat transfer to the face or buttocks. The biggest advantage of using VASER for fat grafting, in my experience, is the high quality of harvested fat.” This means there is more to re inject back into the patient to give them the best result.
Dr. Broadway and Dr. Millard will be hosting another VASER Hi Def course at the bod:evolve facility in February of 2011. This course will focus on Hi Def Arms and Hi Def Legs.

What female hasn’t heard a male say “I’m a butt guy, not a boob guy.” The buttocks has always been an area of the female anatomy that women in the gym focus on shaping by performing endless jump squats, and countless walking lunges. For some, that round athletic bubble butt comes naturally, but others have to literally work their bootie off to achieve it. Now anyone, of any age, can have that sexy, little waist, full buttock physique.
For years women have had options to enhance their breasts with breast implants, but buttock implants didn’t take off near as successfully because of the high risk of infection, and the possibility of the implant shifting. The buttocks augmentation utilizing fat transfer techniques, has been quickly increasing in popularity over the last few years mainly because of the VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction system. This system features ultrasonic energy that gently breaks up unwanted fatty tissue to make removal easier, but without destroying the fat cells. This means the surgeon can melt the fat, remove the fat for harvest, and immediately re inject the fat to contour and shape areas such as the buttocks, breasts, or face.

Actual Dr. Broadway patient- 1 year post op Hi Def lipo abdomen and flanks with a fat transfer to buttocks.
Dr. Broadway often recommends patients remove fat from their lower back, or flanks, because this alone will help to contour a sexy physique and give the illusion that the buttocks is bigger. Adding additional fat to the buttock area allows Dr. Broadway to fill in irregularities such as cellulite dimpling, and add a more youthful, perky appearance to the buttocks. This procedure is often referred to as the Brazilian Butt Lift.
The Brazilian Butt Lift or buttock augmentation, is a permanent procedure as long as the patient selects a highly trained surgeon who understands the proper way to re inject the fat, as well as a great understanding for the art of anatomy. According to a recent study conducted at the University of Pittsburgh, human fat that was harvested for transfer by the VASER ultrasound assisted technology, retained 80% of it’s volume making it ideal for fat transfer and allowing for permanent results.
Dr. Broadway @ bodevolve performs fat transfer to the buttocks and face almost weekly, and has been featured on The Doctors Show with his patient who elected to have lipo of her lateral thighs and flanks, with the fat transfer to the buttocks. Dr. Broadway has also been chosen by Sound Surgical Technologies as a leading provider and instructor for the VASER ultrasound assisted system. He teaches other surgeons through ABS Institute, how to maximize body sculpting procedures, like VASER Hi Def, and how to achieve the most beautiful buttock augmentations utilizing the innovative technology.
The procedure will range in price from $10,000-$20,000 depending on how many areas of the body Dr. Broadway removes fat, and how long it will take a specific patient in the OR. Everyone has a different desired result and this will be discussed at a great extent during your consultation visit, your Pre Op visit, and on the day of your surgery, to make certain you and Dr. Broadway understand YOUR goals.

There can be quite a bit of confusion about the different lipo technologies plastic surgeons offer, and which technology or technique is best for you. In recent blogs we have discussed VASER technology, combined with advanced techniques to achieve VASER Hi Def. Great for some, but not everyone is a candidate for VASER Hi Def, and some patients are looking for a less invasive procedure, with a shorter recovery, to target and eliminate a small area of unwanted fat.

Actual SmartLipo patient–Dr. Broadway
1. What is SmartLipo?
SmartLipo is a newer technology that uses a laser fiber to break up and loosen unwanted fat in areas such as the abdomen, flanks, and face. The procedure is considered to be less invasive than standard lipo, because the fatty tissue is melted and broken up which makes aspiration less invasive to the body. Standard lipo is more like aspirating a solid substance through a small cannula, and SmartLipo is more like removing a milk shake consistency. Less trauma to the body.
2. Who is a good candidate for SmartLipo?
SmartLipo is not a weight loss solution. The best candidate is a male or female who is within a few pounds of their ideal weight, and one who is having trouble losing the last few nagging pounds. Ideal candidates are in overall good physical shape with a healthy medical history.
3. What type of anesthesia is used during SmartLipo procedures?
One of the selling points of the laser lipo technique is that because it is less traumatic to connective tissue and blood vessels, the procedure can often be performed under LOCAL sedation. These means yo don’t have to recover from IV, or general sedation.
4. How much does SmartLipo cost?
Because SmartLipo can be performed in the minor procedure room vs. the main OR, and there is no need for an anesthesiologist, the cost of the porcedure can be much less than that of VASER Hi Def. Typically the procedure will begin around $5000.
5. Do you encourage post op massage therapy with SmartLipo?
Dr. Broadway’s Denver cosmetic surgery facility highly encourages post op massage therapy for all forms of lipo. Our bod:evolve in house massage therapists, will use special techniques and ultrasound therapy to help alleviate enduration, swelling and allow for a quicker recovery.
6. What is the recommended recovery time with SmartLipo?
Patients always recover at a different pace, but with any surgery we encourage you to take at least 1 week off of work, and be prepared for two weeks of light activity. The smaller the surface area, typically, the quicker the recovery. Most patients will be asked to wear a foam garment after surgery for a minimum of 3 weeks.
7. How does SmartLipo compare to regular Lipo?
When utilizing SmartLipo technology, the surgeon will use a smaller cannula than what is used with traditional lipo. The SmartLipo laser:
-Breaks up and melts the fatty tissue allowing for easier aspiration
-Cauterizes blood vessels so less bleeding occurs
-Stimulates collagen production to help tighten the skin during the first few weeks of recovery.
The procedure is less invasive, and the results are more dramatic.
8. What areas of the body can SmartLipo be performed?
SmartLipo is ideal for localized areas of the body such as the abdomen, flanks, lateral thighs or chin. Patients will see good skin contraction in these areas.
9. Who offers SmartLipo?
Patients need to be careful when searching for their SmartLipo surgeon. Many physicians, who are not board certified in plastic surgery, will often state they offer the procedure. These surgeons have only taken a weekend course and have received minimal hours of training and experience. Dr. Broadway is national instructor for Cynosure, the manufacture of SmartLipo, and has extensive training with the technology and how to achieve optimal results.
Dr. Broadway and his partner offer courses through the ABS Institute to surgeons who are looking to perfect their technique.
10. How long do the SmartLipo results last?
The results last as long as the patient does their part to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. We try to help patients establish an overall health and wellness change by introducing them to all of the amenities offered at Renewal Medical Center.
We look forward to meeting you during your SmartLipo consultation with triple board certified surgeon, Dr. David Broadway.
